Christy Shivell of Shy Valley Farm (a native plants nursery) will teach us how to create habitat-rich. people-friendly landscapes with native plants.
She has entitled her seminar: “Pretty Wild/Pretty Neat” - - a chance to learn ecological gardening principles that can guide gardeners toward lower maintenance, aesthetically pleasing, habitat rich landscapes that support local biodiversity in ways that conventional landscapes cannot. Expect to see lots of beautiful plants and learn about ecological landscaping strategies that anyone can use to achieve more life with less work in their own landscapes. Pretty Wild means using native wildflowers to attract desirable wildlife to your landscape, and Pretty Neat means keeping our landscapes looking at least somewhat neat to satisfy our own or other’s scrutiny. Christy will be talking about plants that are both wildly beautiful and good for the ecosystem while behaving well in the landscape. Christy will also present techniques and design principles that can be employed to break away from the conventional and move toward landscapes that are full of life and pleasing to the eye.
